Wake Forest
Wake Forest has a long and colorful history as a bedroom community Northeast of Raleigh. Today it is a thriving town with a very active downtown area, bustling commercial district and an ever-growing list of planned communities like award-winning Heritage.
The town name originated with Dr. Calvin Jones, its first postmaster. The area was known for its dense forest of hardwoods and pines and often called the Forest of Wake. Dr. Jones later identified the area as Wake Forest and the rest is history. Although the majority of the town is situated in Wake County, the town limits spread across county lines into Franklin and Granville counties, with an even larger area sharing its name in their mailing addresses.
